First Patient Day!!

Today we had a mock patient day. Micah was my patient. He was so helpful with getting me through the day. It's the day before Thanksgiving and I don't think anybody wants to be here. So he was very helpful to me. I had no idea it was going to take as long as it did.
I didn't even get close to finishing. I barley got to scaling and we had to start cleaning up. If they would have told us before hand we were being timed I think I wouldn't have taken an HOUR on probing my depths.
In my opinion we should do this mock pt. day at least twice so we can get a feel for things and get MORE EXPERIENCE.

Emergency day!!

Today we spent most of the clinic period going over how to be prepared when there is an emergency problem. It was a pretty easy day. Out pod also got to pass off our Sealant PE on Jamey. Poor Jamey, she had to be a patient and didn't get a chance to pass off her PE.
Our patient day is coming up and I am getting soooo nervous. I sure hope things go well. We'll for sure be prepared if there was an emergecny situation though.

Sealant Day!!!

We did sealants today...if you couldn't tell by my title. Jamey was our pods patient all day. She is quite a trooper. We were going to do some on Micah but the Dr. adv. we should not so Jamey became our victim.
I also passed off my air powder polish today...which I hate doing. I hope I never have to do it on a patient. I would rather use the ultra sonic, when we learn how to use it. Only a couple more weeks and we start seeing patients...AHHHHHHHHHH.
Hope it will all work out ok.

Air powder Polish day!

Today we polished each other with the air powder polish. I hope I never have to do that on a patient. If I do...I hope it doesn't have to be on every patient. I don't like using it and it really taste gross. I would not wish my patient to have to go through that. My clinic partner is a really good clinician but she forgot to step OFF of the foot peddle before taking it out of my mouth and got my lip. It stings but I'll survive.
We also had time to practice a couple of other instrumentations as well. Next week we see each other as mock patients. I hope things get better with understanding when we do what and what instrument goes where.

Sharpening

Today we learned how to sharpen instruments. I'm glad it was kind of an easy day because I have a radiology test I'm freakin out about so I'm not all into clinic today.
This test is a doosy...I feel a little nervous about this one. I'm trying to study and make it look like I'm doing clinic stuff.
Anyway I should probably practice universal scaling. So I'm off to do that.

Floride Treatment

Every day I ask my self if I am in the right career. I'm struggling with everything and in January we start seeing patients that we don't even know. I wouldn't mind if we could keep working on each other or bring in all of our friends and family but we need to meet requirements and I'm sure they don't have that mad of teeth.
Flouride treatment is the only skill I think I can handle and get it down the very first day. The professors keep telling us that by the time we graduate we will feel very skilled to treat our patients and we should be ready for the boards.
I hope they are right and I hope I get better eventually.

Polishing

Today wasn't as bad as other days. We polished each other today. I really thought I knew how but according to Weber State I don't. So that means it is just one more thing I am terrible at. You would think polishing of all things wouldn't be so difficult. BUT IT IS!
I can't really tell you a goal since, honestly, you can't really practice this clinic stuff. You just need to do it in clinic. I could make a goal of passing off more PE's to get a head of things. Which is a good idea.
