Today is my last day of clinic for the semester. I had some great patients and finished a lady I was trying to get completed all semester. She kept No Showing on me. By the time she came in today she had already built up calculus where I had already cleaned. She was very senstitive and would let me touch the other quads unless I numbed her up. I gave her local anesthetic in the quad I was working on but I didn't want to give her any more. I tried using orakix but that wasn't working. I need to have her back next semester so I can do another cleaning and have her come in more frequently if I can get her to keep her appt.s.
My other paitnet was just like last week. Very figity and wanting a quit cleaning so he could get in and out. Again I told him that if you don't come in for regular cleaings the appt.'s will take a little longer.
I know we start clinic as soon as we return from Christmas break so I better start calling patients and having them return. I know we need class V's so I might as well get the patients I have seen to return and scheduled. I'm looking for new patients as well so I can get my other classifications. I'm looking forward to the Christmas break but there is going to be homework I will be doing. Since boards are coming up I will be studying all I can as well as writing papers and doing my research project. But it will still be nice a break from driving up to Ogden. Have a great Christmas break to ALL.

I had a new pt. this morning. I have seen the rest of family and now I finally got to see him. He has the worst mouth out of all the people I have seen from his family. In fact he is my Mock board pt. for Feb. 7. I was really worried how I was going to find one with such short time we had when returning in Jan. He does seem like a more difficult case though. He is a class III just like my other mock board but his calculus feels different. I cleaned one quad on him and I missed quite a few spots so I am hoping my skills improve so I am confident I can clean a difficult class III.
My afternoon pt. was an older gentleman who hates taking his blood pressure medication. He was in a week ago and his blood pressure was too high and they gave him a speech about it and sent him home. When he came in today his blood pressure was lower but he wouldn't stop telling me how he hates to take it. I emphasized again the importance of taking it or he could die. SInce it is considered the silent killer. He is also a very impatient man. He drinks a ton of coffee and he had a ton of stain. So I worked extra hard to try and remove it. I got out the air powder polisher and that seemed to help but it still wasn't removing it all.
The pt. was really anxcious to get out of the chair. He just wanted a fast cleaning. He told me to leave the stain, get what I could remove and than polish him. I explained the importance of a clean mouth and the problem with leaving stain on his teeth. He was full of questions after I explain a couple of things to him. He nicely calmed down a bit and let me finish his cleaning.

Today was a very productive day. I had a pt. no show again but I ended calling one of my patients who needed to be completed and luckily he was available. He was a very difficult class III but I didn't do too bad. I only missed 3 areas. Usually I would be freaking out about this but let me tell you again he WAS VERY DIFFICULT. I really learned how to use my SIU today and my graceys. My afternoon pt. were really cute kids. The little girl had an accident in my chair though and I wasn't sure how to clean her up. Luckily her mother was right next door. She took care of her daughter while I cleaned up the chair and such. Her brother was a little older so he didn't have any problems while in the chair.
And than I saw one quad on Merediths pt. I shared my mock board pt. with her she gave me one of her pt.s quad of a class III. I also was able to do a medicament. I used arestin on her. She seemed very cooroperative and I think she will do well with the medicament and her home care. She was a very nice lady. Even though she was a class III just like my morning pt. she was soooo much easier to work on. Her deposit seem to just flake right off.
Well the semester is just about to come to an end. I have two more clinic days left and a couple more pt.'s I haven't been able to finish. I will have to schedule them Jan. I feel a little guilty since we have learned that we need to complete the root debridment at least within two weeks. It has been longer for some pt.'s. What can I do.
